Day 1 -
Thursday 17th

Day 3 -

September 2009
The walkers passed
The Boathouse at
Auchinstarry Marina early in the day - this was Dr Bob's 'Base Camp' for the
first part of the week.
After a stop for lunch (and a brief shelter from the rain) at Underwood Lock,
the next stop was
The Falkirk Wheel and the transition from the Forth and Clyde Canal to the
Union Canal.
The final stretch of the walk was through the 620 metre long Falkirk Tunnel.

Day 4 -
Sunday 20th
September 2009
The team set out from Glen Village, south of
Falkirk and travelled over the Avon Aqueduct to Linlithgow and on to the end of
this section at Winchburgh.
This brings the total distance travelled to 55 miles
There was good banter with all the canal users, on foot and on the barges and
some were very generous in their donations.
Lorna even found time en route today to practice her yoga.

Day 5 -
Monday 21st
September 2009
Today's walk was from Niddrie Bridge in
Winchburgh to the end of the Union Canal at Fountainbridge in Edinburgh.
This was the longest daily stretch of the walk, covering over 15 miles.
There were some heart-warming stories and moments today - a couple of lads
cycled past the waved collecting tins at great speed, only to come back 5
minutes later especially to donate to Maggie's. We passed a group of canoeists
this morning and one kind gentleman stuck a £5 note on to his wet paddle and
passed it over to Alison. A big thank you to everyone who has contributed so
generously to Maggie's Centres after being accosted on the towpath!

Day 6 -
Tuesday 22nd
September 2009
The walkers travelled from Fountainbridge
to the Maggie's Centre in Edinburgh today then over the Forth Bridge to finish
at Dalgety Bay.
The Maggie's staff gave us a warm welcome and supplied us with wonderful scones
and jam with a very enjoyable cup of tea or coffee. It was great and kept us
going until we stopped for our packed lunch at South Queensferry. We met lots of
generous people again today, some with sad tales to tell but wanted to give to
Maggie's in memory of a loved one.
We had quite a blowy crossing on the Forth Bridge and we were glad to get across
as it had actually been closed to pedestrians earlier!

September 2009
It's all over!! Dr Bob
has finished his 100 mile walk for Maggie's Centres.
The team walked from Dalgety Bay along the Fife Coastal Path, dropping in to Dr
Bob's surgery to say hello to the staff.
A band of drummers welcomed Bob at Maggie's in Kirkcaldy and lots of friends and
supporters turned out to cheer the team home

Previous Walks - Dr. Bob's
2007 Walk along the Fife
Coastal Path
from the Maggie’s Centre in Dundee
to the Maggie’s Centre, Edinburgh
visiting the new Maggie’s Centre in Kirkcaldy
Saturday 4th to Sunday 12th August 2007
The new
Maggie’s Centre, which opened in 2006 in Kirkcaldy, provides cancer patients in
Fife with the support already warmly appreciated by patients in Edinburgh,
Dundee, Inverness and Glasgow. Situated adjacent to the Victoria Hospital, it is
convenient for the many cancer patients now receiving their cancer treatments in
Fife.
The provision of services from this new Centre costs £350,000 per year, all of
which has to be found from donations from the public. As part of the effort to
raise money towards this total, Bob Grant, a GP in Kirkcaldy is planning to
walk, in August 2007, from Dundee to Edinburgh, using the
Fife Coastal Path.
In 1961 Bob was treated for cancer in his leg. Subsequently in 2002 that limb
had to be amputated. He will walk the 108 miles from Dundee to Edinburgh on
crutches.
The walk will start at the Maggie’s centre at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee and
will end at the original Maggie’s Centre in the grounds of Edinburgh’s Western
General Hospital. On the way the spectacular new Maggie’s Centre in Kirkcaldy
will be visited.
To involve as many people as possible in support of this venture, approaches are
being made to organisations throughout Fife, Dundee and Edinburgh. It is hoped
that members of some of these organisations may wish to join the walk for part
of the way and bring sponsorship with them. Approaches are also to be made to
companies based in Fife to request their practical and financial support.
Should you, your organisation or company wish to support this fundraising
effort in any way
please contact Dr Bob on Tel: 01592 610396 or by email at

or by sponsor sheets available from Dr Bob
